		<description>This was the bible for the dialogue-based speech recognition company SpeechWorks (now part of the Nuance empire).  That&#039;s why all the interfaces (e.g. Amtrak&#039;s, Delta Airlines, etc.) are so friendly/chirpy and apologetic.  Following Nass and Reeves&#039; research, the designers want you to make friends with the interface.  

There are a bunch of good user interface books that will tell you how perception is more important than reality and go into specifics like Fitts&#039; Law.   

A book I read recently that reminded me of &lt;i&gt;The Media Equation&lt;/i&gt; was the Heath brothers&#039; &lt;i&gt;Made to Stick&lt;/i&gt;. It&#039;s about how to tell stories that people will remember.  Chip Heath&#039;s also a Stanford professor.&lt;!-- Touched by JuLiA --&gt;</description>
